Have you ever had a Jehovah's Witness knock on your door and you didn't know what to say? Maybe you didn't even open your door because you felt unprepared. Well, this tract is just for you. Jehovah's witnesses will say they believe in Jesus and the Bible, but as you dive deeper into what they really believe nothing could be further from the truth. Instead of avoiding people in the cults, we must lovingly engage by always being prepared to give an answer to make a defense for the true gospel (1 Peter 3:15). This tract will equip you with what JW's believe and will help lead them to understand the truth that sets them free. Below is the full tract spelled out:

Dear Jehovah’s Witness,

I know you are sincere in your desire to honor Jehovah by sharing your watchtower literature. I know you believe you are doing the will of Jehovah. As you read through this, please do what the Berean’s did in Acts 17:11 where they “searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Paul told Timothy to “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Tim. 2:15).  So as you read some questions please measure it up according to the Bible in its context and give it some honest evaluation.

Some Questions

The belief about who Jesus is defined by the Watchtower is that He is the first and greatest thing Jehovah God ever created. The watchtower says Jesus is Michael the Archangel, the Chief angel who has no equals. However, Daniel 10:13 says “…Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me…” Notice how Michael the archangel is ONE of many angels with the same level of authority. Does Daniel 10:13 line up with the watchtowers belief about Jesus being the only Chief angel?

Next question, do you believe that Jehovah is the first and the last? Isaiah 44:6 says “I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.” If Jehovah is the first and the last, then why did Jesus take the same title as Jehovah calling Himself the first and the last in Revelation 2:8 “…These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive”? Jesus claimed to be the first and the last just like Jehovah in Isaiah 44:6. If Jesus isn’t God, why would He give Himself that title?

Another question, “Do you think Jesus is equal with God?” John 5:23 says “That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.” Jesus said that we should honor the Son just as God should be honored. Meaning Jesus is claiming equality with Jehovah. So if Jesus was equal with God, what would that mean? In John 8:58 Jesus said “Before Abraham was, I AM.” Jesus is making the same statement God made about Himself to Moses in Exodus 3:14 “… I Am hath sent me unto you.” That title “I Am” in the Bible is tied to the title Jehovah God which Jesus said He was.

Who is Jesus?

Jesus is called God’s only begotten (Greek word monogenēs) Son in John 3:16. That doesn’t mean He was born or created but means unique and one of a kind. And in Colossians 1:15 Jesus is called the firstborn (in Greek is prōtotokos) over all creation which means ‘superior in rank or preeminent’. It doesn’t mean chronologically first born but rather supreme over.

Also when Jesus came to earth, He took on human form. So when He said “The Father is greater than I” He was saying that God the Father was greater in His position but NOT in Deity (Colossians 1:19,2:9). God the Father was up in heaven in all His glory while God the son Jesus humbled Himself and came to earth in a human form (yet still fully God) becoming a little lower than the angels positionally. When Jesus came to earth He gave up His divine privileges but He did not give up being God (Philippians 2:5-8).

John 2:19-21 says “Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." The Jews therefore said, "It took forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?" But He was speaking of the temple of His body." Jesus said He himself would raise up his own body. Not as a spirit creature but in a physical body. When Jesus resurrected He said "Touch me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have," (Luke 24:39).

The Bible clearly teaches Jesus is the Eternal God who is the creator of all things, co-equal with Jehovah as was just explained. He is superior to angels (Hebrews 1). He is not the Father. He is one unique person of the triune God-head but is still one God.  The finite (limited) human mind cannot fully understand the infinite God. Water is one substance but can take on different forms. It can be a liquid, a solid or a gas. But yet still one substance (H20). God is three distinct persons eternally existing as One God. So does the Watchtowers explanation of Jesus line up with the Bible’s clear explanation of Jesus?

How to Enter the Kingdom

Have you done enough good to enter the kingdom when you die? God has given us the 10 commandments. One commandment is don’t bear false witness (lying). How many lies have you told since you were a child? Thou shalt not steal. Have you ever stolen anything regardless of its value? Jesus said whoever looks with sexual lust commits adultery (Matt. 5:28). Have you ever looked with lust? Romans 6:23 says “For the wages of sin is death…”. Because everyone has disobeyed God we all are guilty sinners deserving of His justice. Revelation 21:8 says “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” All sinners deserve eternal hell (a lake of fire).

But God is loving and gracious. Romans 5:8 says “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Jesus died on a Roman cross taking the death penalty you deserve for your sins. He was being punished in your place even though He was sinless. And three days later He resurrected bodily from the dead. And now God offers you the free gift of eternal life which is to be forgiven of all sins, go to heaven, and to know God personally through Jesus. Eternal life is a free gift of God’s grace and mercy that cannot be earned through good deeds.  Here is how to get eternal life:

1) Repent. Turn away from your sins and any pride of trying to earn salvation through good works. Stop following and putting your trust in the Watchtower.

2) Trust in Jesus the Son of God alone for salvation. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9
