About the Author

Josh Sazdanoff is a mens pastor who helps men become men of God. He is the President of Breakn Truth Ministries, which reaches out to the youth and hip hop culture with the gospel. B-boying (breakdancing) and spoken word poetry are the avenues in which he ministers to his audiences. He graduated from Arizona State University with a BS in Exercise and Wellness and has worked as a personal trainer. Josh lives in Southern California with his wife, Krista, and their three wild boys: Ezekiel, Asher, and Jedidiah. His passions are Jesus, family, basketball, fast cars and being active.

Biblically Grounded

This book provides excellent tools to help Christian men fight temptation. It's straight forward and easy to read. Josh's battle strategy for this life is solidly grounded in the Bible. Interestingly, nearly every page has a Bible verse on it. For these practical verses alone I would recommend this book. Chapter four is beneficial to all believers and worth the price of the book x100.

Josh makes good work of not pulling any punches. This is not your feel good, cater to your feelings type of book. Although, experiencing the freedom spoken of this book will feel great! It's the type of book that will get you results in freedom from sexual sin.

Josh hits the nail on the head with his book. It’s an easy read but hard to take truth. I’ve read a number of books that either in whole or part deal with sexual purity, such as Every Young Man’s Battle, Every Man’s Battle, Setting Captive Free, The Exemplary Husband, etc., and this book is a must read for the serious believer.

In our sexually driven culture and unprecedented time of anonymous access to anything one can imagine, we need the bright light of God’s truth to expose the darkness surrounding this area of compromise and defeat in so many lives, especially those that profess to love Jesus. Josh doesn’t pull punches. He tells it like it is. He transparently draws from his experience and leverages key biblical passages to map out a realistic path of tough, but joyful, victory. He outlines this road map in his first chapter and then spends a chapter on each of the following topics: honest accountability, killing compromise, identity in Christ, fight or flee temptation, loving God passionately, and persevering in the truth.

“We are not mere animals acting off carnal instincts. We are human beings created in the image of God.” Josh develops truths like these that are founded on the solid rock of God’s word to make his points. One of the most critical portions of this book and the fight for sexual purity is in the second half of the fourth chapter on the believer’s identity in Christ derived from Romans 6.

With the fundamental Gospel truths of God’s transformative grace in place, Josh then develops practical applications and draws our attention toward Jesus, our ultimate treasure. He appropriately tempers our effort of being motivated by God’s love and empowered by His grace.

I highly recommend Blessed are the Pure. It’s a flowing conversation that is serious and to the point. Whether you feel trapped in the stronghold of sexual sin or are apathetically flirting with temptation or even if you are currently walking in the light of sexual purity, I would suggest you get a copy of this book. It will give hope to the trapped, challenge the apathetic, and remind the faithful that in the presence of God is fullness of joy and in His right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Passion!

Josh comes at maybe the most damaging enemy to men in the church today in the way it should be: with a sharp and experienced passion. He does not mince words, clearly articulating the problem. But instead of only focusing on the problem, he ultimately draws our attention to the incredible freedom that can only be found in Christ. I especially appreciate the focus he gives to Romans 6, making clear that we fight this battle with our identity anchored in the grace and work of Christ.

I would have liked to see more primary sources cited in the text, giving his assertions more foundation. Also, the specific application of scripture can be overemphasized at times. It can be good to let the reader take the overarching truth of the scripture and apply it to their own lives in a way that best fits the situation.

Overall, this is one of those books that both convicts and uplifts. It brings Godly sorrow, sorrow which brings life. If you want a book to pat you on the back and make you feel better, then go somewhere else. If you want a clear and concise battle plan to defeat lust in your life and live out your true identity in Christ, this book is for you.
